Memorial Bursary In Honour of Paul Dwillies and Bernice Gehring
This bursary in honor of our long-time volunteer’s memory will be awarded to a student who shows an outstanding commitment to volunteering in their community.
About
Paul Dwillies was creative and talented, with a curious mind. He designed and built microscopes and telescopes. He built a model train and re-created the landscapes and villages in the area of Provence, France, where he and his wife Eileen lived for 13 years. “We always called him a Renaissance man, because he would do anything from nailing a nail to threading a needle.” Paul was best known in Maple Ridge for his involvement with the local Farmer’s Market Society, as the market coordinator, graphics designer, handyman, and overall friend of the market and everyone within in.

Bernice Gehring had a love of the outdoors, her community, social activism, and especially for her extensive family and friends. An avid world traveller, she would encourage everyone to see British Columbia and Canada first. Bernice was instrumental in the operation of the Farmer’s Market in Haney. She would be there every week without fail, counting heads and smiling bright.
